Preston Residents Association is a member of VODA, North Tyneside’s Voluntary Organisation Development Agency based at the Shiremoor Centre, Shiremoor.  VODA is a main conduit for the Voluntary and Community Sectors, working closely with North Tyneside Council and partners involved in delivering a range of advice, help and training. Full information is available through their webpage where, going to the contact page, you can make an application to join as a member or simply see how you might be able to become a valued volunteer.

‘REMAP Tyne’ is the local branch of the National Charity REMAP, dedicated to the design and manufacture of tailor made aids for disabled people which are not available commercially. The organisation is special in that it consists of engineers, hobbyists, enthusiasts etc. dedicated to using their ingenuity and skills to enable people with disabilities to achieve their much desired independence in aspects of their lives or leisure activities not previously available to them.

The work has a distinct engineering flavour, is varied, challenging and demands a variety of skills – woodwork,. metalwork, machining, electronics, upholstery, welding, to name but a few, and incorporates design and sourcing of materials. The reward is self satisfaction and knowing that one’s contribution to charity is one hundred per cent effective.

For persons having such a need, or those interested in helping others please visit www.remaptyne.co.uk for full details and contact information.
