Allotment Open Day – Saturday 2nd June

Preston Village Allotments are holding an open day to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  Open from 10am – 4pm there will be gardeners in period costume, refreshments and tours. Come along and see how life down on the allotment was in the 1950s, including artifacts from the period such as tools, gardening books and seed catalogues, a guided tour of the site and live music from the 50s.

Other Jubilee celebrations in the area include a celebratory festival which will also mark the official launch of the newly restored Tynemouth Station on Monday 4th June (11am-4pm). The 4th June will also see the lighting of six beacons at Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend.  Part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Beacon project with sixty beacons lit along the length of Hadrian’s Wall, there will be free access to the museum from 8pm, with a firework display leading to the beacon lightng ceremony at 10.10pm.
